WideShut.co.uk is one of the many soldiers in humanity's war of information. Mainstream news media in the west is owned and controlled by a small number of corporate and government elite, that impose their agenda and archaic system on to the public.
In the US there are only 6 mega-corporations that control every mainstream publication, news network, and entertainment outlet – many of which hold important assets in the UK and Europe. These are Disney, Bertelsmann/RTL, Time Warner, Vivendi (owns UK music labels), Viacom and News Corp (Rupert Murdoch, who owns The Sun Newspaper & Sky).[1]
In the UK where WideShut is based, Murdoch's News Corporation owns News of the World, The Sun, The Times and Sunday Times, and BSkyB (Sky TV). Sky provides the news for Channel 5.
Northern & Shell own the Daily Express, Sunday Express, Daily Star, Daily Star Sunday, OK!, New!, and Star, Portland TV and Channel 5.
DMGT own The Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, The Evening Standard, Ireland on Sunday, and the London daily Metro, as well as many of your "local" newspapers. They also have a large share in ITN news.
Archant and Johnston Press own the rest of the regional newspapers.
And there is then the BBC which is owned and effectively run by the state.
